Independent · Evidence-based · Mauritius & Indian Ocean region

Know what your members experience. Know what an auditor finds.

Pergevity conducts independent audits and member studies for sports and fitness facilities — from resort gyms and golf clubs to independent studios. Objective, methodically sound, with clear recommendations instead of a sales pitch.

Built and conducted by a sport scientist who runs facilities himself — 25 years in the field.

The output — one number, four bands

Every study and every audit ends in a 0–100 score you can track over time.

The score is a weighted composite across defined categories — not a feeling, not a star rating. Repeat the study or audit after 6–12 months and the same instrument shows you whether your measures worked. Example marker: 69 — Established.

Spend where members notice

Category scores show which investment moves satisfaction — and which budget goes into areas nobody uses.

Catch churn before the cancellation

The retention block surfaces the reasons members would leave — while there's still time to act on them.

Close liability gaps early

Safety findings are flagged as immediate actions — documented before an incident makes them expensive.

Top 3 recommendations from this sample
  • Immediate: restock and date-check first-aid kit; post emergency numbers at the entrance — low cost, closes the biggest safety gap.
  • This quarter: introduce a visible service log for cardio equipment; two treadmills showed belt wear.
  • Mid-term: add a functional-training zone — guest feedback gathered during the audit points to it as the most-requested missing area.

Sample data for illustration — not from a real client engagement. Your report additionally includes photo documentation per category and a full criteria breakdown.

Study

Member & Guest Study

A structured survey of your members, guests or hotel clientele — who they are, how they use your facility, what they miss, and how satisfied they really are.

  • Standardised online questionnaire, 5 thematic blocks — demographics, usage, wishes, satisfaction, retention
  • Questions within each block tailored to your facility type — golf club, hotel gym or sport-tourism operator — not a one-size-fits-all form
  • Optional in-depth interviews for qualitative insight
  • Guest/non-member segment on request — including conversion analysis: what would turn a regular guest into a member?
  • Report with satisfaction index, segment profiles and prioritised recommendations

Audit

Facility Audit

A structured on-site assessment of your sports facility — gym, golf operation, hotel fitness area — against a fixed criteria grid across six categories.

  • Safety & maintenance · staff & expertise · program & offering
  • Equipment & facility · member/guest experience · operations & utilization
  • Each criterion scored on a declared 0–5 scale or measured directly against thresholds, photo-documented, aggregated to category and overall scores
  • Report with traffic-light rating per category, quick wins and mid-term recommendations
Half-day or full-day on site · re-audit option after 6–12 months

Strongest together: the combined audit

The real value sits in the gap between the two: issues the audit finds before members complain about them — and dissatisfaction the audit can't confirm on site, which points to a communication problem rather than a facility problem. One engagement, both perspectives, one report.

The instruments

No black box. This is what we actually measure.

Both instruments run on a fixed, weighted scoring structure — the same blocks and categories every time, so results stay comparable across facilities and across years. The specific questions within that structure are adapted to your facility type: a golf club and a hotel gym aren't asked the same things.

  4. Wishes & preferencesWhat's missing, what should change — the block clients quote most
  5. Satisfaction & retentionScored satisfaction index, NPS, churn risk — the part that becomes your 0–100 score

How it works

From first call to final report in four steps.

STEP 01

Scoping call

We define what you want to know, which segments matter, and which instrument fits — study, audit, or both.

STEP 02

Field phase

Survey rollout to your members and guests, and/or the structured on-site audit. Minimal effort on your side — the work is ours.

STEP 03

Report & score

Weighted scores, traffic-light bands, segment profiles and a prioritised list: quick wins first, investments second.

STEP 04

Presentation & follow-up

Results presented to your management, on site or remote. Optional re-run after 6–12 months to measure progress — and, where it fits, an ongoing performance partnership.

Who it's for

Built for operators in sport and fitness — in tourism and beyond.

Golf & country clubs

Member satisfaction studies, guest-golfer conversion analysis, and operational audits of practice areas, pro shop and course-side services.

Independent gyms

Full six-category facility audit plus member study — from equipment condition to the one thing members would change first.

Hotel & resort gyms

Often unstaffed, often overlooked. Audits weighted for unsupervised operation, guest studies tuned to short stays.

Sport-tourism operators

Water-sport centres, tennis and padel facilities, multi-sport resorts — the same six-category grid, adapted to your operation.

Honest note

We assess operations, service and facility quality — not turf agronomy. Course-condition assessments (greens, drainage, irrigation) are a separate discipline; where a client needs them, we bring in a qualified agronomist rather than pretending it's our field.

Beyond the audit

Audits and studies are the entry point. For operators who want to build lasting programmes and train their own team, ask about our Partnership model.

Pergevity is a boutique sport-science consultancy based in Mauritius. Every engagement is led personally by its principal, Oliver Zänkert — a sport scientist with more than 25 years in the field as coach, operator and consultant. That's deliberate: you get the senior expert on site, not a junior team working from a manual.

The instruments weren't developed at a desk. They come from running our own sport-tourism operation — AirSwitch, a kite and wingfoil school at Le Morne that guests independently rank among the top-rated at its location, across 500+ public reviews on Tripadvisor and Google — the same discipline of guest scrutiny your own facility lives under, at any scale. The audit criteria are the same standards we hold our own operation to.

Where a project needs expertise outside sport science, such as turf agronomy or building services, we bring in qualified specialists rather than stretching our own claim. One rule governs every report: no claim without evidence. Scores are built from defined, weighted criteria; recommendations are ranked by impact and cost; and where something sits outside our competence, the report says so.

Get started

Tell us about your facility. We'll tell you what we'd measure.

A scoping call costs nothing and commits you to nothing. You'll leave it with a clear picture of what a study or audit would cover for your operation — and what it would cost.

Replies come from Oliver personally, usually within one working day. Your details are used to answer your enquiry — nothing else.
